Nachdem sich Dennis mit einer Sch\u00fclerin eingelassen hat, wirft ihn seine Frau raus und er mietet sich ein kleines Haus, in dem er sich nicht besonders wohl f\u00fchlt und geht er jeden Tag in den angrenzenden W\u00e4ldern spazieren. Auf einem seiner Ausfl\u00fcgen entdeckt er einen riesigen Bergahorn, in dessen Rinde ein Klappmesser steckt, das er mitnimmt. Keine gute Idee, wie sich schon bald darauf zeigt …<\/span><\/p>\n

Dennis hat in seinem Leben schon einige unkluge Entscheidungen getroffen, die letzte war, sich mit einer seiner Studentinnen einzulassen. Als seine Frau deren Textnachrichten liest, setzt sie ihn vor die T\u00fcr und er kommt in einem Airbnb unter. Doch so richtig zufrieden ist er damit nicht und lenkt sich jeden Tag mit einem Spaziergang durch die W\u00e4lder hinter dem Haus ab. Obwohl er immer dieselbe Strecke geht, f\u00e4llt ihm der riesige Bergahorn erst nach 6 Tagen auf. In seiner Rinde steckt ein altes Klappmesser. Schon als kleiner Junge wollte Dennis so eins haben und so zieht er es kurzerhand aus dem Stamm und ignoriert die Warnung, die daneben eingeritzt ist.
\nEin riesiger alter Baum, der sich bewegt, so eine Geschichte kann sich auch nur Joe Hill erz\u00e4hlen ohne dabei ins L\u00e4cherliche abzugleiten. „Jackknife“, zu deutsch „Klappmesser“, ist der erste Band der f\u00fcnfteiligen „Shivers Collection“ von Amazon, zu der unter anderem auch Catriona Ward und Owen King eine Kurzgeschichte beigesteuert haben. Eine deutsche \u00dcbersetzung gibt es (noch?) nicht, aber ich konnte dem Geschehen auch so ohne Probleme folgen, man muss hier also kein Englisch-Genie sein. Auf gerade mal 46 Seiten l\u00e4sst der Autor seinen Protagonisten einige fragw\u00fcrdige Entscheidungen treffen, die ihn nicht sonderlich sympathisch machen. Immerhin h\u00e4lt er sich selbst f\u00fcr einen netten Kerl, was seine Frau und sein Chef allerdings anders sehen, dabei hatte er nicht mal Sex mit seiner Sch\u00fclerin, daf\u00fcr aber jetzt jede Menge \u00c4rger am Hals, f\u00fcr nichts. Und das tut mir so gar nicht leid, denn, machen wir es kurz, ich mag Dennis nicht, was sowohl an seiner Einstellung als auch dem st\u00e4ndigen Selbstmitleid liegt. Und an der Tatsache, dass er sich das, was er will einfach nimmt, so wie eben das alte Klappmesser, dass im Baum steckt, die eingeschnitzten Worte daneben ignoriert er und von da an wird es d\u00fcster, blutig und erz\u00e4hltechnisch beweist <\/span>Joe Hill einmal mehr, dass er seinem Dad in nichts nachsteht. Selbst beim Ende hab ich mir gedacht, dass h\u00e4tte genau so von Stephen King kommen k\u00f6nnen, bei ihm habe ich auch immer mal wieder Probleme mit dem Ausgang seiner Geschichten. Der Apfel f\u00e4llt nicht weit vom Stamm und in diesem Fall ist das toll, auch wenn die Story meiner Meinung nach ruhig etwas ausschweifender h\u00e4tte sein d\u00fcrfen, vor allem zu dem seltsamen alten Baum h\u00e4tte ich ein paar mehr Infos gehabt. Aber das ist Meckern auf hohem Niveau, denn Hills fast schon klassische Horrorgeschichte hat mich ansonsten wirklich gut unterhalten.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ein unangenehmer Protagonist, ein riesiger Baum und ein altes Messer, mehr braucht „Jackknife“ fast nicht. Von der ersten Seite an sp\u00fcrt man, dass zwischen den Zeilen etwas lauert und nur darauf wartet, endlich herauszukommen. That’s Karma, Baby und daf\u00fcr vergebe ich 4 von 5 Miezekatzen.<\/span><\/p>\n
