Journalist Heidi Cohen is in Cape Cod investigating the sources of recurring toxic algae blooms along the coast. A local named Jimmy has his own theory for her. Every year the fetid growth gets worse\u2014but it\u2019s been going on longer than anyone knows. Decades ago, something happened to Jimmy that he\u2019s never forgotten. Is Heidi ready for the real story?<\/span><\/p>\n

Im Rahmen ihrer Recherche f\u00fcr einen Artikel \u00fcber die giftigen Algen, die sich an der K\u00fcste ihres Heimatortes ausbreiten, trifft Heidi auf Jimmy, der ihr eine unglaubliche Geschichte erz\u00e4hlt. Und so seltsam sich diese auch anh\u00f6ren mag, die Journalistin glaubt ihm.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heidi ist Journalistin, die sich ihre Wohnung mit einem Mitbewohner teilt, der in ihr mehr sieht, sie selbst traut sich aber nicht so recht, sich darauf einzulassen. Als sie einen Artikel \u00fcber die giftigen gr\u00fcnen Algen schreiben will, die sich immer weiter entlang der K\u00fcste ausbreiten, bekommt sie den Tipp, doch einmal mit Jimmy zu reden. Der etwas \u00e4ltere Mann ist ihr sofort sympathisch und obwohl er ihr eine verr\u00fcckte Geschichte erz\u00e4hlt, glaubt sie ihm jedes Wort.<\/span><\/div>\n
Mein erstes und einziges Buch von Paul Tremblay war bisher „A Head full of Ghosts“, in dem Merry von der angeblichen Besessenheit ihrer gro\u00dfen Schwester Marjorie erz\u00e4hlt. Eine tolle Geschichte, die mich mitgenommen und einige Fragen aufgeworfen hat. Also habe ich nach „The Pram“, Joe Hills Beitrag zu Amazons „Creature Feature Collection“, zur zweiten Kurzgeschichte aus diese Sammlung gegriffen, weil ich mir dachte, mit Paul Tremblay kann ich nichts falsch machen. Aber Pustekuchen …<\/span><\/div>\n
Ich wei\u00df nicht warum, aber die Story baut f\u00fcr mich einfach keine Spannung auf. Vielleicht ist es tats\u00e4chlich der L\u00e4nge von nur 35 Seiten geschuldet, wahrscheinlich aber eher der f\u00fcr mich ziemlich langweiligen Erz\u00e4hlweise. Daf\u00fcr merkt man, dass sich der Autor mit den Folgen des durch die Algen vergifteten Wassers und den Auswirkungen auf die Menschen auseinandergesetzt hat.<\/span><\/div>\n
Der Perspektivwechsel von Heidi auf Jimmy als der von den Ereignissen vor vielen Jahren spricht, erfolgt abrupt und ich brauchte tats\u00e4chlich einen Moment um ihn \u00fcberhaupt zu erkennen. Leider ist das, was er dann zu erz\u00e4hlen hat weder besonders spektakul\u00e4r, noch spannend r\u00fcbergebracht und auch das Ende schafft es nicht, die in mir aufkeimende Langeweile erfolgreich zu bek\u00e4mpfen. Au\u00dferdem habe ich mich weder gegruselt, noch gibt es hier genug Monster f\u00fcr eine Monstergeschichte, schade. Aber zumindest hab ich meine Englischkenntnisse ein bisschen aufgefrischt.^^<\/span><\/div>\n

Wenn man „Creature Feature Collection“ liest, erwartet man eine Monstergeschichte, aber als die kann man „In Bloom“ nun wirklich nicht bezeichnen. Aber auch sonst hat Paul Tremblay hier nicht viel zu bieten, keine Spannung, keine interessante Story, kein Grusel, mehr als 2,5 von 5 Miezekatzen sind hier einfach nicht drin.<\/span><\/p>\n
