Stella steigt im „Rustic Inn“, einem Hotel ab und l\u00e4sst sich dort das Zimmer mit der Nummer 17 geben, in dem damals ihr Mann und ihr Sohn \u00fcbernachtet haben sind, bevor die beiden bei einem Verkehrsunfall ums Leben gekommen sind. Damals hatte sie einen Auftritt mit einer Band, Ihr Mann Frank und der kleine Sam sollten im Auto nachkommen, weil fliegen zu teuer war und obwohl Frank seit einem Jahr nicht mehr getrunken hatte, fiel es ihr schwer, ihm zu vertrauen.<\/span>
\nIn der Einsamkeit des Hotelzimmers kehren nun die Erinnerungen zur\u00fcck, die Vorw\u00fcrfe, die sie sich macht und mit dem Gedanken an Selbstmord schl\u00e4ft sie ein. Als sie erwacht, sitzt ein kleiner Junge an ihrem Bett.
\n„Night and Day in Misery“ ist eine sehr bedr\u00fcckende Kurzgeschichte, die sich gleich mehreren harten Themen zuwendet. Es geht um den Verlust eines Kindes, Alkoholmissbrauch, Selbstmord, ziemlich viel f\u00fcr nur 34 Seiten. Und trotzdem hat es Catriona Ward geschafft, in diese Seiten so viel Gef\u00fchl hineinzupacken. Mit Stella m\u00f6chte man nicht tauschen, denn selbst Jahre nach dem tragischen Tod ihres Kindes ist sie noch immer nicht dar\u00fcber hinweg und doch bekommt sie die Chance, das alles zu verarbeiten, auch wenn der Weg dorthin ein sehr schmerzhafter ist.
\nCatriona Wards Kurzgeschichte ist Teil der „Shrivers Collection“ von Amazon und dort nur in der Originalsprache auf Englisch zu haben, eine deutsche \u00dcbersetzung gibt es noch nicht.<\/span><\/p>\n

Es gibt Dinge, \u00fcber die kommt man nie hinweg, man kann nur lernen, damit zu leben. Als Mutter kann ich mich total in Stella hineinversetzen, ich verstehe ihre Zweifel, ihr Verlust geht mir nahe. So viel Trauer, Selbstvorw\u00fcrfe und am Ende auch Hoffnung in so wenige Seiten zu packen, ist mir 4 von 5 Miezekatzen wert.<\/span><\/p>\n
